We have thought long and hard about what to call ourselves. Given our shared history with Japan, our dedication to helping others thrive, and our uniquely diverse backgrounds, mikata seemed like the perfect choice. 

Written out as 味 方, mikata means "ally" or “friend.” So if someone is your mikata, they are always on your side, working with you and for you. But use a different combination of Chinese characters, namely 見 方, and the meaning of mikata transforms into “way of seeing” or “point of view.”

In the end, it’s the multiple layers within the word’s meaning and its adaptability to different contexts that have helped us alight on how we wish to be known.
